Fact Sheets

Project Cypress exists in a complex landscape of science, technology, and community engagement. To help inform the public on key project-related topics, the Project Cypress team has created a series of Fact Sheets.

Introducing Project Cypress

The Project Cypress team consists of Battelle, the world’s largest, independent, nonprofit applied science and technology organization, which has built a reputation for delivering successful large-scale projects for nearly 100 years, and leading clean technology developers Climeworks and Heirloom.

Community Engagement Council

The Community Engagement Council (CEC) is an established forum for the Project Cypress Team to solicit ongoing community input and feedback at every stage of project development for each Project Cypress location.

What is Direct Air Capture?

Direct Air Capture (DAC) is an important climate solution that removes excess carbon dioxide (CO2) directly from the atmosphere. Science and industry agree that DAC projects are an urgent necessity to remove excess CO2 from the atmosphere. This will help to prevent worsening extreme weather events, such as hurricanes, droughts, and floods, in the long term.

Community Engagement

Southwest Louisiana has long been a home to world-renowned industries. The region has the workforce, innovative capital, and geographic advantages to become a clean technology capital in the United States. Project Cypress aims to address the global harm of legacy emissions, lead the energy transition, and deliver jobs, investment, and other benefits that will be defined in partnership with the community.
